While looking for tips to increase my Self Confidence I came also across the term Self Esteem. And had to admit that I was not sure what the difference between these two is.

So what is Self Esteem? What is Self Confidence?

Self EsteemWhat Is Self Esteem?

If you check out some definitions on the Internet about what is Self Esteem you come across descriptions like

  • Self Esteem is a feeling of pride in yourself, the degree to which one values oneself
  • Self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a person’s overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth
  • Self Esteem is about personal feelings or opinions of oneself
  • Self-esteem encompasses beliefs (for example, “I am competent” or “I am incompetent”) and emotions such as despair, triumph, pride and shame

So self esteem is  a subjective assessment that people make of themselves. It also says something about how much you like yourself.

What Is Self Confidence?

Self ConficenceNow if Self Esteem is how you feel about yourself, what is Self Confidence?  Again you can check out some definitions like wikipedia and you will find things like

  • Self-confidence relates to self-assuredness in one’s personal judgment, ability, power
  • Self Confidence is a measure of one’s belief in one’s own abilities
  • It’s an individual’s belief that they can successfully perform a desired behavior
  • Self Confidence is a feeling of trust in ones abilities, qualities and judgment

Now that sounds a little bit different to me. Self Confidence seems to be more about how much I trust myself that I can actually achieve what I want, compared to how I feel about myself / how much I like myself.

Self Esteem Or Self Confidence?

So in order to improve yourself and your life, what do you need to concentrate on? Self Esteem Or Self Confidence?

In my humble opinion both of them are really important.

If you don’t like yourself (low self esteem), you won’t treat yourself in the best possible way, which will stop you from improving yourself.

If you don’t believe in yourself (low self confidence), you won’t go ahead and do everything in your power to achieve your goals.

So in order to live the life you want, in order to achieve your goals and  learn the abilities you need to live a happy and successful life, you need to love yourself and believe in yourself.

You need both, Self Esteem and Self Confidence.

Your Next Step In Self Improvement

So now that we have clarified what Self Esteem and Self Confidence actually mean, what do we do?  My suggestion? Work on both of them. Because the more you like yourself the more you will trust yourself. And the more you trust yourself, the more you will achieve your goals which will help you like yourself even more.

So what is Self Esteem for you, what is self confidence for you? And how do you increase them? Give us your tips in the comments below.

In the next post I will talk about some tips on how to improve self confidence and how to build self esteem.

Stay tuned :)

BookshopSelf Improvement Books – they cover a huge section in nearly every bookshop these days. But which one should you read? What is right for you?

What Are Self Improvement Books?

As Self Improvement is a huge topic there is a wide range of book available. So in a bookshop they might not be all in one place. If you don’t find what you need in the “Self Help” Section why not have a look in the following sections:

  • Finance / Wealth Creation
  • Health / Fitness
  • Psychology / Relationships
  • Learning / Motivation

You can find books to support you self improvement in any of these areas.

Where To Get Good Self Improvement Books

I am a fan of researching nearly everything online, but I will always love to visit a good bookshop – or library. Maybe it shows my age, but I will always prefer a paper book to reading full books online ;) .

But for free material (free ebooks) the internet is unbeatable! Have a look at my favourite ebooks.

Most of the online bookshops these days also offer used books which can be a whole lot cheaper compared to the brand new version. And why not try Auction houses like ebay?

thinkBigAndKickAssSo, another book on my Self Improvement Quest.

Think Big and Kick Ass” by Donald Trump. Have you read it? Let me know what you think about it.

Why Read Donald Trump?

The first book I read from Donald Trump was “Why we want you to be rich”, which he co-wrote with Robert Kiyosaki.

Most of you might know Donald Trump from his TV Show “The Apprentice” and have heard about (or seen) his huge real estate developments.

He is a hugely successful billionaire who is creating his own wealth – which is a great reason to learn from him and about him if you are serious about your self improvement.

Donald Trump – Think Big And Kick Ass

Think Big And Kick Ass” is a co-operation of Donald Trump and Bill Zanker, the founder of the Learning Annex. Both have shown that thinking Big can bring you Big results – in business and in life.

It concentrates on what it takes in their opinion to be successful. Both authors contribute their perspective and real life examples to the

Do you have it what it takes?

The book outlines the trades and attitudes that it takes in the authors opinions to be really successful. These include:

  • dream big
  • set a big goal
  • take action every day
  • never stop learning
  • be passionate!
  • never take no for an answer
  • get even with people who do you wrong
  • never stop focusing on your objectives

Each main point has a chapter that describes how Donald Trump and Bill Zanker have lived that point and what influence it had on their lifes and success.

Think Big And Kick Ass – Conclusion

I enjoyed reading this book by Donald Trump very much and it again showed me that being passionate about what you do is one of the most important points to success in life.

I don’t agree with everything (eg I don’t think you have to “crush” your opponent but I agree that if someone does you wrong on purpose you should make clear that this is not the way to go) but it is definitely a great read to learn how a man of the standing and experience of Donald Trump sees life and business.

Have you read “Think Big And Kick Ass” or any other books byDonald Trump? Or seen his TV show? What do you think about him, his ideas or his success?
