This is a great collection of employee motivation ideas Renee.

It's such a shame that my previous employer left out the core factors from the list - primarily the recognition and career path.

It is difficult to go into a job day-after-day where you feel that you and your efforts are not appreciated and valued. Employees should treat their employees as 'family' to a certain extent - look after them and they will look after your business.

Great article Renee...Money alone will never hold an employee...they need to fell wanted part of the team, as you have pointed out. A little friendly competition will also go along way in improving perfomance.

Hi Renee,

Employee motivation ideas can be tough. Yes, recognition is important, but over-recognition can devalue the praise so it shouldn't be used constantly. That keeps employees striving for praise.

Agree with the work environment. It can also be a good idea to let people decorate their own work environment with personal touches - within reason.

I find that the most important factor is having a good boss. A good boss that puts your needs first before the company. This approach not only earns trust, but also has the worker striving to be their best (which helps the company).

Hi Renee,

I think you have touched on a very important topic and one that all employers should take note on. A lot of the ideas are common sense and if the employers could implement these ideas it would make for a happy and enjoyable workplace. This result would be beneficial for both employee and employer. A win win situation.

Hi Renee,
I think you've presented some excellent and practical ways to keep employees motivated. I especially like the part about paying it forward and offering praise to your employees even if you're not receiving any. Feeling appreciated definitely makes a huge difference.

Hi Renee - I'm not in the work force any more, being self employed for many years. But your article makes a lot of sense. I've witnessed my husband suffer a company that definitely did not follow many of these ideas and as a result he left them - and so did many other employees. Companies that do follow your ideas win out in the end as they end up with all the best people working for them.

I believe that self confidence is a component of self esteem, not separate from it. It is very hard to have high self esteem without high self confidence.

I never thought of making a personal commercial. I like that one.

I have never been successful at using the Fake it method. I know I'm just faking it and undermine myself.

My best method has been in re-framing what I consider a good job. I no longer compare myself to the best out there, but to how much I improved. That improves my self esteem along with my self confidence.
